The Sax Volume Reducer works by filtering out the lower frequencies, which travel the furthest, from the saxophone's sound. This allows you to retain a rich and full tone with significantly reduced low frequencies. An additional feature of the volume reducer is that the sound will appear slightly less "open" compared to playing without it. This means a slight dampening of resonance occurs, reducing the brightness of your sound. However, the natural tone and character of your saxophone remain intact. One trade-off with this product is that lower notes, particularly B and Bb, are less responsive. This is a small compromise for the benefit of reduced sound levels but is something saxophone players should keep in mind when using the Sax Volume Reducer. While the saxophone cannot be made completely silent due to sound escaping through the tone holes, we have designed the Sax Volume Reducer for maximum sound reduction without causing significant disruption to the intonation of the lower notes.
